There are many articles out there that urge millennials like you to "follow your passion" and "dream big". While I am an advocate of such notions, success does involve more than just interest and ambition.

As a millennial who has been in the workforce for over three years, I can tell you that there are plenty of other ingredients in the recipe for success. They include:

Humility. Demonstrate intellect and capability at work but never assume that you know a lot more than your colleagues. Patronising others is a hurtful act, and arrogance will prevent you from learning valuable things. Think of the workplace as a platform to exchange knowledge and share ideas! Humility also means that you can take criticism in your stride and continuously reflect and improve upon yourself. Heed the words of Ernest Hemingway, in that 'There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.'

Conviction. Have the courage to stick to your beliefs and allow them to guide your decisions. Those with intense conviction are able to make decisions and see them through, even in the presence of external influences.

Risk-Taking. Say yes to opportunities! This is the best time to immerse yourself in new endeavours. Acquire skills outside your field of expertise, volunteer for a challenging project, or initiate a new campaign. Rich experiences are a catalyst for growth – you will stand to gain a plethora of valuable skills which can make you an asset to any company.

The working professionals we spoke to in this issue of BrightMinds have also graciously shared with us tips on achieving success in the workplace. Teachers, assistant directors, engineers, and more offer insights into their dynamic professions and working environment.

I hope that their stories will inspire you to chart your career path and work towards your goals with unwavering commitment. Make your journey spectacular!
